Rehearsals and shooting in Dublin, Ireland.

Paid between €1,000 – €1,500 depending on role.

Synopsis: Dreamtown tells the story of Mickey Richards, an ageing rocker who still believes he is a part of the music industry. Mickey spends his time in pubs, mingling with the youth, trying to sell himself as someone who matters. These kids may entertain his ‘bullshit’, but his son Alan doesn’t, and wants nothing to do with his embarrassment of a so-called father. Rarely ever a presence in Alans life, Mickey tries to prove to his son that he is the cool dad he wants so badly to be, but his reality starts to crumble around him, and the dreams he once had of fame are now nothing but an unachievable desire. Everyone knows Mickey Richards is a failure, except Mickey Richards.

Even though only twenty years of age, Alan fancies himself much more mature than he is. Desperate to embody adult life and move on from his youth, he still lets his emotions get the better of him. He prides himself on a taciturn approach to conversations which he thinks this is cool, but to most people, this just comes off as difficult. Alan has based his fashion and style from the 1980’s and in particular the look of the new romantics, making people constantly question his sexuality. His use of ‘guy-liner’, dangly earrings, ripped denim and chokers make him look like a tacky bad boy from an 80s catalogue, not to mention his shaved head. His favourite movie is The Lost Boys, and he walks confidently, the street his catwalk.

Alan is an independent musician that makes Synthwave music and is trying to have success with his stage name Naomi Cowboy. Determined not to turn out like his father Mickey, he aims to become successful doing what he does, but his deep desire for Mickey to be proud of him and more involved in his life causes him anger and frustration, especially now as he sees his own father as a complete embarrassment.

Works as a bartender at the Dive Bar Mickey hangs out in, daily. She is detached from everyone that goes there and tries to keep to herself. She enjoys her privacy and doesn’t really like many people. She doesn’t make a habit of forming close relationships with anyone which stems from her own insecurity at not being where she wants to be in life – an established clothing designer. She makes t-shirts with funny and ‘cool’ slogans on them and wants to start her own business, but she finds it hard to find the time to work on what she is passionate about constantly juggling her home life and her work life. She lives at home with her Mam, who is pretty lazy, leaving most of the work up to Gina. Gina likes Mickey for his own individuality and finds him a breath of fresh air in that he is 100% authentically himself. She doesn’t really take herself seriously but bears the weight and responsibilities who someone of her age shouldn’t. She should be out having fun and enjoying her youth, but she can’t help and feel like a bit of a failure.
