FEST e.V. (the Frankfurt English Speaking Theatre), a non-profit amateur theatre group based in Frankfurt, Germany, is casting for it’s upcoming stage production of Arthur Miller’s ”Death of A Salesman”.

Death of a Salesman is a two-act tragedy set in the late 1940s in Brooklyn, told through a montage of memories, dreams, and arguments of Willy Loman, a traveling salesman who is despondent with his life, and appears to be slipping into senility. The play addresses a variety of themes, such as the American Dream, the anatomy of truth, and infidelity.

The production will be performed on two weekends, November 17, 18, 19 and December 1, 2 3, 2023 in Kulturhaus Frankfurt.

The production will be in English, therefore fluent English is required for the role advertised.

Rehearsals will be in Frankfurt, Germany beginning in June or July 2023. Therefore only actors local to Frankfurt and surrounding cities are eligible to apply.

The production is not able to offer accommodations or travel expenses.

Looking to fill the following roles:

playing age: 25 - 35

ROLE: HAPPY (Willy & Linda Loman’s younger son)
m, 25-35, English speaker, based in Frankfurt or surrunding areas.

In the scenes from the past we see Happy doing everything within his power to get his father to notice him.

In the present Happy has learned how to say what people want to hear, but neither of his parents takes him seriously.

On the face of it, the grown-up Happy appears to have achieved the things Willy wanted for his boys--a steady job, the social life of a popular single man, a car, and his own expensive apartment. However, Happy turns out to be a sham. He is lonely and longs for the chance to prove himself. He wants to meet a woman of substance like his mother. But he never will. He is a man without scruples and has no real desire to develop a life with values. He is generous enough to send his father to Florida for a vacation, but he isn't interested in spending time with him. By the end of the play it is clear that he is callous toward both his parents.
