Vera is a young farm girl, she is 17 years old and is pregnant with a child out of wed lock, a condition that was unacceptable to society at the time way more than it might be today, her only option is an abortion. She is very close to her younger brother who is difficult as most children are; free from the harsh realities of adult life. She is a strong resilient person and somewhere one might suspect the bond she has with her brother brings the best out of her despite her flaws and weaknesses.
