Error Messages on Submission

When you submit for a casting and write your application email, occasionally you might see an error message. This article explains what error messages you might see and how to deal with them.

After you’ve written your application email, you will click on the AUTO CHECK button. Here’s what messages you might see.

Wrong language

When a production puts up a casting call, they always ask for you actors to write to them in a specific language.

When you write your application, we automatically check what language you are writing in. Sometimes you will get an error message telling you, for example, that you are writing in English (for example) when you should be writing in German.

Note, that because the check is done automatically it’s only about 90% accurate so you can press OK to continue in the language or CANCEL to go back to editing and change the language of your application.

Replace [] or {} brackets

We use square [] or curly {} brackets to hold special kinds of information and these cannot be used in your application. For example, if you write

I acted in Shakespeare last Summer [Othello]

then this will not go through because the text contains square brackets [].

Instead, you will need to write with normal brackets:

I acted in Shakespeare last Summer (Othello)

Note that these brackets can be in the TITLE or the BODY of the application. For example, you might see in the title

casting [role]

In this case, you need to replace the [role] with the name of the role you are applying for, e.g.

casting for JO
