A young Guatemalan girl is smuggled across the US border and left stranded in the remote, desolate community of Llano in the Californian desert, known informally as "Lake Los Angeles." She is taken in by a reclusive Cuban exile who lives quietly off the grid, and the two lonely outsiders form an unlikely bond as they navigate their shared sense of displacement and longing for something better.
