A historian and witch named Diana Bishop inadvertently unlocks an ancient, enchanted manuscript called Ashmole 782 whilst conducting research at Oxford's Bodleian Library, setting off a dangerous struggle among witches, vampires, and daemons who all covet the text. Seeking protection, Diana forms an unlikely alliance with the enigmatic vampire Matthew Clairmont, and the two grow closer as they attempt to unravel the manuscript's secrets. Their forbidden relationship and Diana's burgeoning magical powers place them at the centre of escalating tensions between the species.
