A Neapolitan police inspector in 1930s fascist Italy investigates a series of murders whilst burdened by a supernatural gift that forces him to witness the final moments of the recently dead. As he navigates cases rooted in passion, jealousy and social inequality, Ricciardi remains emotionally isolated, haunted by the visions he cannot escape. His melancholy is deepened by a quiet longing for a woman he observes from afar, yet feels unable to approach.
