Nicky's Family
Directed by Matej Mináč (2011)
During the late 1930s, a young British stockbroker named Nicholas Winton quietly organised the rescue of hundreds of Jewish children from Czechoslovakia by arranging their transport to foster families in Britain, just before the Nazi occupation made such escape impossible. Decades later, an elderly Winton is unaware that many of those he saved are still alive until a television programme reunites him with survivors in a moment of profound emotional revelation. The documentary weaves together archive footage and dramatised sequences to tell both the historical story and the legacy of Winton's extraordinary humanitarian act.
