Joan of Arc
Directed by Christian Duguay (1999)
Jeanne d'Arc, a young French peasant girl, becomes convinced she is receiving divine messages commanding her to lead France's armies against the occupying English forces during the Hundred Years' War. Guided by her unshakeable faith, she rallies the Dauphin's troops and achieves remarkable military victories, most notably relieving the siege of Orléans. Her success ultimately gives way to betrayal and capture, leading to a politically motivated trial in which powerful church and English authorities condemn her as a heretic. She is burned at the stake, dying as she lived — certain of her sacred mission.
