The Catholic School

Directed by Stefano Mordini (2021)

A group of privileged teenagers attend an elite all-boys Catholic school in Rome's Parioli neighbourhood during the 1970s, their comfortable upbringings forming the backdrop to a story culminating in a brutal real-life crime. The film traces how the repressive moral environment of both the institution and the surrounding bourgeois community may have contributed to the violent acts committed by some of its former students. Narrated in a reflective, fragmented style, it examines class, religion, and masculine identity in Italian society of that era.
