A young girl discovers that her father possesses an extraordinary gift: when he reads aloud from books, the characters and creatures within them are brought into the real world. This power was responsible for her mother's mysterious disappearance years earlier, and the family soon finds themselves pursued by dangerous villains who were unwittingly released from a novel called Inkheart. Together they must find a way to reverse the magic and restore order between the worlds of fiction and reality.
