A Canadian intelligence officer meets a French Resistance operative during a dangerous wartime mission in Casablanca, and the two fall in love and eventually marry. When British intelligence begins to suspect that his wife may in fact be a Nazi spy, the husband is tasked with investigating her himself. The film builds tension around his desperate search for the truth whilst he wrestles with the possibility that the woman he loves and the mother of his child may have deceived him all along.
