A cash-strapped New York bar teeters on the edge of collapse as its colourful, chaotic ensemble of staff, performers and regulars muddle through a single desperate evening. The owner scrambles to find enough money to pay the rent while his employees bicker, scheme and carry on with their own dramas. The film is a freewheeling, largely improvisational portrait of creative people clinging to a beloved but financially doomed establishment.
