Angelo
Directed by Markus Schleinzer
A Black man living in 18th-century Austria is taken in by a noble family as a child and raised as a curiosity and social ornament, educated and displayed to aristocratic society. As he grows into adulthood, Angelo struggles with his ambiguous status — neither servant nor equal — and the profound isolation of existing as an object of fascination rather than a full human being. The film charts his life with a cool, detached formality that mirrors the dehumanising world he inhabits.
