La Xirgu, l'actriu
Directed by Sílvia Quer (2015)
This documentary examines the life and legacy of Margarida Xirgu, the celebrated Catalan theatre actress who became one of the most important figures in Spanish-language performance during the early twentieth century. It traces her close artistic relationship with Federico García Lorca, whose work she championed on stage, as well as her eventual exile following the Spanish Civil War. The film draws on archive material and testimonies to build a portrait of a woman whose cultural influence extended far beyond her homeland.
