A veteran British intelligence officer, recently forced into retirement, is quietly brought back to uncover a Soviet mole who has penetrated the highest levels of MI6. Working in secrecy and largely alone, he methodically re-examines past operations and interviews former colleagues to narrow down the list of suspects among a small circle of powerful men. The investigation forces him to confront painful personal betrayals alongside the professional ones.
