Die Heimkehr
Directed by Jo Baier (2011)
A German soldier returns home after years of captivity following the Second World War, only to find that life has moved on without him and his family has adapted to his absence in ways that make reintegration deeply difficult. Struggling to reclaim his place within his marriage and community, he must confront both the trauma he carries from the war and the uncomfortable changes that have taken root in his home. The film explores the painful gap between the man who left and the world that continued without him.
