La maladie de MINAMATA
Directed by Noriaki Tsuchittoto (1995)
A documentary revisiting the devastating mercury poisoning crisis that afflicted the coastal community of Minamata, Japan, caused by decades of industrial waste discharged by the Chisso chemical corporation. The film examines the long-term suffering of victims and their families, many of whom continue to live with severe neurological damage, whilst also charting their ongoing legal and political struggles for recognition and compensation. It forms part of director Noriaki Tsuchimoto's sustained body of work documenting the human consequences of this environmental catastrophe.
