Alma & Oskar

Directed by Dieter Berner (2021)

A fictionalised portrait of the turbulent romance between the Viennese socialite and muse Alma Schindler and the volatile young expressionist painter Oskar Kokoschka in early twentieth-century Vienna. Their passionate but destructive relationship unfolds against the backdrop of a city on the cusp of great cultural and political change, with Alma torn between her ambitions and the consuming demands of Oskar's obsessive love. The film explores themes of artistic genius, gender, and the personal cost of being bound to a mercurial creative spirit.
