Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter

Five young German friends — two brothers, a nurse, a singer and a soldier — make a pact to reunite at Christmas 1941 after the war is quickly won, but their lives are torn apart as they are swept into the brutal realities of the Eastern Front and Nazi persecution. Each follows a separate path through the conflict: combat, collaboration, survival in the entertainment industry and resistance, with the war eroding their idealism and humanity alike. The miniseries traces their diverging fates across several years of fighting, showing how ordinary Germans became participants in or victims of the wider catastrophe of the Second World War.
