Grainne Uaile - Pirate Queen of the west

A documentary exploring the life and legacy of Gráinne Ní Mháille, the sixteenth-century Irish chieftain and seafarer known as Grace O'Malley, who commanded fleets along the west coast of Ireland and defied English colonial power. The film examines her remarkable career as a leader who controlled maritime trade routes, engaged in piracy, and famously negotiated directly with Queen Elizabeth I. Through historical accounts and visits to locations connected with her life in County Mayo, it builds a portrait of a woman who occupied an extraordinary position of authority in Gaelic Ireland.
