Your IMDB Credits

Having credits on  IMDb is important for actors as this tells Casting Directors and others about your official experience.

In simple terms, if you have 20+ credits on IMDb people in the industry know you are an established actor who knows their way around a set. But even if you have just 1 credit it still tells them a lot: that you’re a beginner actor who is working.

It’s always worth setting up a free account on IMDb although you will be pretty limited on what you can do. If you have a paid account you can add pictures and make your account stand out a little more although it’s probably not worth doing this unless you have some decent credits to add or you want to do research and find the names of upcoming films and casting directors, etc.

A paid account with IMDb costs about $150 or €132 but there’s often a free 30 day trial available so you can see the benefits.

Adding IMDb credits

It’s very important to keep your IMDB profile up to date and add your new film credits where you can.

If the film is already on IMDb

If you want to add yourself to a production which is already listed on IMDB, the easiest way is to go to the production and in the CAST section you will see an edit button in the top right. Click on this to add yourself.

This is the cast page for the new James Bond movie, for example:

To see full details on how to do this, see this help file from IMDB.

If the film is NOT yet on IMDb

The easiest option is to ask the production add it to IMDb as quite a lot of information is needed (including production details which you may not have). However, you can also add it yourself.
