Privacy/Security for Actors

Being an actor is, by definition, a public affair.

But that doesn’t mean every part of your life is open to the public.

Here, then, are a few ideas and thoughts on keeping your personal life private, and your public life secure.

Don’t give them out to anyone you don’t know.

This means:

• Don’t include them in your CV
• Don’t put them on your profile or website
• Don’t have them on your Social Media profile

If your personal number is available publicly there’s a (small) risk you might get annoying spam calls or inappropriate calls so it’s best to use an email address instead However, feel free to use your Agent’s number (with their permission) on your profile & CV, etc.

In general, you can put your email address on your CV, etc so CDs, etc, can get in touch. But again, if you have an agent use their email address instead.

Some actors will have an email address strictly for “business” and a separate one for personal use. This is, of course, up to you.

Note that if a CD wants to get in touch with you, they can via enCAST or through the contact form – this ensures all messages are logged for reference.

Never give your address to anyone you don’t know and trust. And if you need to send anyone a document which includes your address, feel free to pixelate out anything you don’t want them to see.

You never know who’s reading your Twitter feed; so don’t overshare and tell them everything… remember the old adage: keep them wanting more.
