il progetto

Benji, a short film in the guise of a retro TV commercial for the robotic waste disposal unit “Benji” which becomes increasingly bizarre when Dad decides to recycle more than just household waste.

Benji is a surreal dark comedy about conformity and materialism, presented in a quirky, tongue-in-cheek TV ad format. Featured is a typical 1950s British nuclear family – Mum, Dad and their young Daughter. As the Mum and Daughter delight in demonstrating the bin’s capabilities, Dad appears increasingly uncomfortable and unsettled by Benji’s presence, and its ability to de-atomise objects.

Benji is an ambitious passion project we’re very excited about, and something I believe has the potential to be an excellent calling card for both cast and crew!

Paid £100 per day and shooting in Dorset with travel and catering covered.

DAD

MUM

A parody of a typical 50s housewife as depicted in commercials of the time. Her over-acted, upbeat persona is similar to a larger than life Truman Show character. She has a warm, affectionate demeanour, and is completely unaware of the commercialised nature of her existence. It is only when she notices Dad acting strangely that she begins to question her reality.

Notes: No dialogue, ability to convey subtle emotions is key.
