English on enCAST

The languages we show on enCAST are fairly general and we do not tend to sub-divide them much.

For example, we offer as a language German and do not divide this into any dialects or accents, e.g. Hochdeutsch, Austrian-German, Swiss-German and so on.

The only exception to this is with English. Since we get a lot of requests specifically for American English (or AmE), often from American films shooting in Europe looking for native AmE speaking actors, we offer

  • English

and

  • English-American

In this case, English means any kind of English (Canadian, Australian, International, etc) and English-American means you speak with an accent and can pass as someone from the United States.

In other words, we treat American English as a separate language for the sake of casting calls in Europe.

Accents & Dialects

Note that sometimes in the role details you will see a particular need, e.g.

  • The actor should speak English with an Australian accent.
  • The actor should speak Italian with a Sicilian accent.

In cases like these then you must state clearly in your submission email that you speak that specific dialect or accent.
