Ana and how spam broke her dream

This is a story about my friend Ana who called me up last week on the verge of tears.

Ana is a good actor. I know this, I’ve cast her in projects and she’s done well.

Last year she submitted for a role on an American series shooting in Europe. The production wrote back and asked her for a self-tape. She sent it in and even sent it to me to take a look. It was good.

But then… nothing. She didn’t hear a word from the production and assumed she hadn’t been chosen.

Months passed.

And then whilst she was doing a search for a completely unrelated subject in her emails, up popped an email from the series director inviting her to come over for a face-to-face audition for the series. It was over 6 months old and Ana had never seen it because it had gone straight into the spam folder of her emails.

Which is when she phoned me up on the verge of tears.

Now this isn’t the first time I’ve heard a story like this. So it bears repeating: check your spam folder every single day.

Who knows what could be sitting there? It can easily happen that important emails from casting directors, agents, or other people in the entertainment industry can end up there by mistake. If you don’t check your spam folder, you might miss an important chance to audition or get a job offer.

So make checking your spam folder a daily habit!

* and just in case you are wondering, at enCAST we check our spam daily…
