Acceptable/Offensive Casting Calls

How do we decide what castings we allow on the site, and what castings we do not allow?

This article is based on the guidelines we use here. Please feel free to get in touch with your opinion!

Please note, if you post a casting on our site you MUST agree to follow these guidelines before the casting can be made live.

The production & the roles

Pornography, nudity, & scenes of a sexual nature

We do not include castings for pornography on enCAST and by pornography we mean any production whose main purpose is to cause sexual arousal.

Productions with artistic merit which include scenes of a sexual nature are fine, however.

Having said this, the difference between the two is oftentimes subjective. For example Palme d’Or winner La Vie d’AdèleBlue is the Warmest Colour – has been variously described as “pornographic” and “an epic film [which] evokes love in its purest and most passionate form“. As long as the production appears genuine, non-exploitative, and non-pornographic, then it can be published on our site.

Thus castings for legitimate productions which contain nudity or scenes of a sexual nature are fine with us.

However, we do not allow castings which ask for nudity at a first audition, or for nudity at a callback which does not conform with current general practice (see our article on nudity in auditions for more on this).

Note: to ensure transparency in our castings, we can only post castings for this type of role if a link to the active website of the production company is included and the casting email address links directly to this company; we are unable to post adult castings where the email address is anonymous, e.g. gmail, protonmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.

Animal cruelty

Any production which includes even a hint of animal cruelty or exploitation is not allowed here.

Age

We allow only roles and actors aged 16 and over on the site.

If the role includes nudity, scenes of a sexual nature, or violence, then the actor and role must be 18 or over.

Subject matter

We allow productions on almost any subject matter or genre and do not generally restrict this at all.

Ethnicity & Gender

Whilst we would like to see all roles open to any ethnicity or gender, we understand that certain roles need to be restricted and castings which do so are generally accepted unless there is obvious discrimination going on.

The language of castings

We do not post castings which contain what are generally considered derogatory or offensive terms to describe people.

However, we do consider character description to be different from how an actor can be described.
