Athens, scarred and beatiful, ravaged and occupied emerges as a character through Ray’s interconnected stories. Ray, and supporting characters of Friend and Woman, adopt myriad additional identities including the citizens of Athens, prostitutes, lovers, destitutes and foreigners. The narrative shifts between past and present as we are taken through Ray’s experiences and imagination through the city of Athens, the depths of the London Underground, the catacombs of Paris, and into the darkest moments of the German occupation of Greece.
