about the project

For the play “Sweat” by Lynn Nottage, produced by Shakespeare Frankfurt e.V. and directed by PJ Escobio.

Lynn Nottage’s 2017 Pullitzer Prize-winning piece “Sweat” has been described as “a powerful and emotional look at identity, race, economics and humanity”. The play addresses issues such as racism (between whites, blacks and Latinos), and the threat of unemployment and poverty. It will be performed in English, as will the rehearsals.

Shakespeare Frankfurt is a semi-professional theater company that has made a name for itself in the Frankfurt area as a reliable, creative, inventive and high-quality theater production company.

The premiere is on September 15th at the International Theater in Frankfurt. There will be 2-3 performances per month until May 2023.

Rehearsals will be held in July-August 2022, with a holiday break from 21.07. until 08.08. 

The fee is still under negotiation but it will be around 800-1000€ in total.

Role description: Chris is a young black man with big dreams--struggles to improve his chances in life, even though it means leaving behind his working-class background and best friend, until a dispute changes the course of his life forever. We see him at 20 and again at 29 after his dream shattered. Will that destroy him?
