Using IMDB to Find Work

A lot of enCAST actors are on IMDb Pro and it can be a great resource to find work if you use it properly. Watch the video to find out how to use IMDB Pro to get work. (For full details, see below.)

IMDB Pro is a website that can help actors find jobs. But it’s not easy to use and it costs money. Right now, it’s about €18 each month or €130 each year.

If you’re not using IMDB Pro yet, think about trying it. Some actors really like it and have found jobs there. But others don’t use it, so it’s up to you. Right now, they have a free trial for one month. This lets you see if you like it. But remember to cancel it if you decide not to keep it, or they will charge your credit card.

When you join, make a profile. Add your work experience, pictures, and videos. Casting agents, who find actors for movies, often look at your profile. They want to see what you have done before and what you are like. So, make sure to keep your profile up-to-date.

Looking for jobs can be tough on IMDB Pro, especially for European actors. This is because when it comes to their job section IMDb is very US-centric and essentially ignores Europe. Instead, you need to look for work indirectly.

Look for movies that are in pre-production or development. These are movies that are not made yet but will be made soon. This is where you can find jobs.

To do this, go to www.encast.eu/imdbprolinks. This page has links for each country in Europe that show movies in pre-production or development. Click these links to see a list of movies. Then, from this list, pick out the promising ones and contact the casting director to see if they are still hiring actors.

When checking out a movie, keep a few things in mind. Ignore movies that were updated more than a month ago, animations or short films, and movies in languages you don’t speak.

If you find a good movie, look at the credits to find a casting agent. If there is one, try to find their email and write to them. If there is no casting agent, you can write to the production company or director. You can find an example of what you can write here: www.encast.eu/imdbprotemplate.

Remember to check IMDB Pro every month for new movies. Also, keep track of who you write to. Sometimes, you might not hear back when you apply, but don’t lose hope. If you keep trying, you might get a role in a movie. Good luck!
