Cover Emails to Talent Agents

This article explains how you can write an effective cover email when you are looking to find a new Talent Agent (or TA).

Before you begin, however, there are a couple of golden rules.

  1. Keep your email short and simple and to the point
  2. Be honest – everyone knows everyone in this industry and if you say you’ve worked with a famous director and you haven’t it won’t take long before the TA knows this and you are deleted forever from their system

That being said, here’s how to write a cover email to an agent.

Salutation

This needs to be personal. Nothing is worse than beginning generically with

Dear Sir or Madam

or even

Hi

No. When you begin you write to a specific person at the agency:

Dear Ms Rossi

Get to the point

Talent Agents are busy so get to the point: who are you, what do you want.

My name is Marey J Smith and I’m a film actor based in Berlin.

I am currently looking for new representation and I’d love the opportunity to meet with you and discuss the possibility of working together.

There’s no need at all here to write about how brilliant you are (the TA will judge that you are when they see your showreel) and all the things you’ve done (the TA will check your CV to find out so they don’t need you to tell them twice).

Then tell them about the attachments:

I’ve attached two recent headshots and my CV. You can also see my latest showreel here: https://www.vimeo.com/12345.

And then make sure to add the attachments to your email!

Closing

End with your name and under that the most important links in your acting life:

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Marey J Smith

And that’s it.

But before you send

  1. Make sure you have their name & email correct
  2. Check the spelling
  3. Check all the links work
  4. Make sure the attachments are all there

Good luck!
