about the project

For a short film titled “Uncle Jack” produced by Black Octopus Productions

Synopsis: Jack is everyone’s favourite uncle; nothing is too much trouble and his house is an open door to locals, whether it’s for help or a quick chat. To Jean, Billy and Lucy, he’s just like family, but like all families, there are tears as well as laughter.

“Uncle Jack” is a visceral look at how online culture, rumour and an individual’s perception can lead to life-changing consequences. The film will be a powerful and challenging depiction of societal breakdown and as such, we need to make applicants aware that some footage will be graphic in terms of language and violence.

Shooting in August just outside Manchester city centre (please do not apply if you are not easily able to get to Manchester under your own steam), we are looking for actors local to Manchester and the surrounding area.

Food and refreshments will be provided and transport expenses, plus you will be paid for your time and talent – details will be given privately.

Looking to fill the following roles:
role 1 | actors | female
playing age: 60 - 80
role languages: English
ROLE: Pearl, Jack's partner
Pearl has been with Jack for decades, and is now struggling with the effects of Alzheimer's. Jack is her full-time carer and likes to involve Pearl in the community where he can. Pearl is still alert and engages with her friends and loved ones but is clearly slipping away.
