Actors Without Showreels

If you want to submit to a casting call, but you don’t have a showreel on your profile yet, there are a couple of options.

Of course these aren’t as good a real showreel, but they are better than nothing and well worth doing till you have enough footage to make yourself a proper showreel.

Add a self-introduction video

The best alternative to a real showreel is to make yourself a short self-introduction video.

What you need to do is spend just 30 seconds or so looking straight to camera and introduce yourself.

Tell them:

  • Who you are
  • Where you are
  • Your training & experience
  • And then thank them for watching

Then put a short title card with your name & email at the beginning and end – just 3 seconds or so at the beginning and 10 seconds at the end.

And then…

  • Upload the video to YouTube or Vimeo
  • Add the link to your enCAST profile

And now, when a casting director visits your profile they’ll be able to see at least how you look on camera, and to a certain extent how natural you are.
